So, now is as good a time as any to let y’all know that I’m putting the name Jaded Hipster Choir to rest. Since I’ve started making music, I’ve made so many quantum leaps in terms of sound quality, music writing, and general musicianship that I feel continuing to use this name would be like carrying 7 angry and dumb children on my back for as long as I use it.
But, I’ve already started work on a new album, tentatively called Pythia, which’ll be around 50-80 tracks and 2+hrs, and I already have a demo up on the new bandcamp under the name “Ghibli”.

Rush Job (Bonnaventure James ‘Take Your Time’ Remix)
When I first heard this remix, I immediately thought of this song by Daft Punk, and was blown away by the subdued take on the original. As gay as it sounds, my choir conductor says that the’re real strength and rhythm in restraint, and you can totally hear it in hushed processing of the drums and the sample treatment.
This will be part of a Rush Job Remixes release (thats the cover below), released sometime in January on my bandcamp.

In “Cait Sith,” the second cut from his upcoming Kodama EP, Jaded Hipster Choir frontman Thomas Michael has weaved an intricate orchestral web that dangles between organic and synthetic, creating a piece that although created electronically, could fill an empty theater. Gorgeous looping. It’s got Owen Pallett written all over it.

Rush Job was made a few days after Kodama was finished. I still had the weird desire to create orchestral cut up collages, but I had already finished mentally compartmentalizing Kodama in my head. I was pretty sick with a temporary bug, tho, so I made Rush Job under the haze of honey and Neocitran. Cotillian Dress is like me declaring my love for the sound of the clarinet by packing as much of it as possible into a single song.

Coma Cinema - Her Sinking Sun (JHC’s Rites of Spring Reverb)
With this remix, I was really trying to go for an emotional opposite of the original, and make it something someone who was depressed or sad or whatever kind of negative emotion, that just wants to dance and not care. All the sounds in this remix was already in the original, but resampled and processed inside Ableton (except for the drumbeat, which I built and processed from a cache of drum sounds I keep handy.)
